As owner, Karen Braswell serves as Chairwoman of the Board for Alphanumeric Systems, Inc. By focusing on developing strategies to best serve clients, Karen leads the executive management team to maintain the overall business focus and direction of the company. By representing and promoting the company to the public, she ensures that potential clients are aware of the many benefits of partnering with Alphanumeric.
Continuing Alphanumeric’s proud history as a woman-owned business, Karen brings a wealth of leadership and experience in the business and technology arena. Along with a 15 year proven track record in business management, administration, and systems analysis, Karen has extensive hands-on experience in training and education of business units on products and services. With previous roles as a systems analyst for Exxon Corporation, and as a public relations representative, and systems analyst for Electronic Data Systems, Inc., Karen is focused on developing good business strategies for delivering high quality products and services to her clients.
With a deep commitment to service in the community, Karen currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). She is also a member of Elon University's Board of Visitors. Karen previously served as Vice President of Philanthropy for the Plano Area National Charity League and is a past member of the Parents Council at Elon University.
Harvey V. Braswell

As President, Harvey Braswell focuses on the three components of the enterprise: people, clients, and the business. With a strong commitment to Alphanumeric’s market and industry, Harvey is responsible for delivering quality products and services to clients on time and within budget that result in “customer delight”. By hiring, developing, and retaining the best people critical to the company’s success, Harvey ensures an ethically and financially strong business environment for both employees and clients.
As a native North Carolinian with deep roots in the state, Harvey brings to Alphanumeric Systems more than 30 years of experience in all aspects of business growth and operations for small, medium, and large corporations. His expertise in repositioning and restructuring operations and sales for such global technology service providers as Affiliated Computer Services, Inc., and Electronic Data Systems, Inc., helps him effectively position Alphanumeric for significant growth and improved efficiency as the company enters its fourth decade of business.
Harvey is also a founding board member of the North Carolina Technology Association, a member of the Elon University Board of Visitors, Chairman of the UNC Children’s Hospital Board of Advisors, and the chairman elect of the North Carolina Children’s Hospital Board of Visitors.
Jay Trepanier
Chief Financial Officer

As Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Jay Trepanier ensures Alphanumeric’s financial strength and success as it continues to grow into its fourth decade of business. By offering Alphanumeric his key experience in budgets, accounting, compliance management, contracts, purchasing, and board operations, he provides financial guidance across all facets of the organization to ensure Alphanumeric operates with sound financial principles.
Jay brings more than 17 years of hands-on financial and operational experience to his role as CFO. As a licensed CPA who also has an MBA, Jay possesses education and experience in both accounting and business. Jay has served North Carolina business since relocating from Massachusetts in 2003, serving as Director of Finance for Cary-based Hill-Rom, Chief Financial Officer and Vice President of Operations for Cary-based Dataflux, and Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer for Morrisville-based Etrials, before joining the Alphanumeric Team in July 2009.
Jay is a Certified Project Manager, a Certified Manager of Project Excellence, and a Six Sigma Green Belt, in addition to being a Certified Public Accountant.

As Controller of Alphanumeric Systems, Rebecca provides direction and leadership for all financial activity within the company in addition to being responsible for all accounting functions. In this role, Rebecca provides Alphanumeric with a tremendous amount of institutional knowledge as well as industry and financial expertise.
Rebecca has held several roles during her tenure at Alphanumeric and has been associated with the financial aspects of the company for more than 20 years. As one of the first 10 employees hired for Alphanumeric, Rebecca has 27 years of experience serving Alphanumeric’s customers. During her tenure at the company, Rebecca has been instrumental in providing financial oversight and direction to the executive management team, in turn facilitating profitability and efficiency in the highly volatile information technology services market. This experience and knowledge of Alphanumeric’s business and customers have positioned her to provide an integral role in the growth and expansion of Alphanumeric’s business.
Betsy Justus
Vice President, Sales & Marketing

In her role as Vice President of Sales and Marketing, Betsy Justus facilitates the growth of Alphanumeric’s client base and company revenue by ensuring the company has a talented and well-seasoned sales team. By identifying and empowering talented sales professionals, she ensures Alphanumeric effectively supports and truly understands its customers and their changing needs.
Betsy comes to Alphanumeric with 28 years of experience in developing and leading business groups, sales teams, client relationships, and public outreach activities. As founder and president of the North Carolina Electronics and Information Technologies Association, she spearheaded the first North Carolina Technologies Forum, which highlighted emerging business opportunities in the telecommunications and IT industries.
Based on her impressive achievements in several executive positions in the private and public sectors, Betsy was honored with the Distinguished Women of North Carolina Business and Professional Award. Betsy now serves as Chair of the North Carolina Center for Public Policy Research Board of Directors.
Jay Baucom
Vice President, Public Sector Operations

As Vice President of Public Sector Operations, Jay Baucom is responsible for Alphanumeric’s growth in the public sector space as well as managing future operations with partners in either a prime or subcontractor role. Jay serves as a client advocate when approaching day-to-day operations by providing focused oversight for these contracts and service offerings to ensure continued high quality services.
Jay draws upon 20 years of achievement in sales, operations, and financial management experience in both private and public sector environments to effectively serve Alphanumeric’s customers. Most recently, Jay served as the Chief Information Officer for the North Carolina Community College System (NCCCS). He also served as an account executive, implementation manager, project director, development manager, and deputy account executive for a variety of programs while working for Affiliated Computer Services, Inc. These roles have provided Jay with extensive experience communicating and coordinating work throughout all levels of stakeholder organizations.
Jonathan Register
Vice President, Operations

As Vice President of Operations, Jonathan Register oversees vendor relationships and service delivery of managed services, internal IT operations, and back office operations. Jonathan enhances production and maximizes performance by partnering with management teams to establish product positioning, pricing, and delivery strategies.
With over 10 years of senior operating and general management experience, Jonathan has extensive experience driving product management, building marketing alliance relationships, and ensuring a focus on client satisfaction. Since joining Alphanumeric Systems in 1998, his accomplishments have included the achievement of an unqualified SAS-70 Type II audit, making Alphanumeric the only IT managed services company in the area with that distinction. This more than a decade of service to Alphanumeric’s customers provides him with unique insight into the day-to-day needs of customers and the most effective means of meeting these expectations. By applying best practices in all components of operations, Jonathan ensures Alphanumeric reliably provides services on time and within budget.
Jonathan is ITIL Foundation and ITIL Practitioner (Release & Control) certified. He is also a member of the North Carolina Technology Association.
Kristen Sandstrom
Vice President, Human Resources

In her role as Vice President of Human Resources, Kristen is responsible for managing all aspects of Human Resources and the recruiting for the Staffing and Outsourcing division. With experience serving various types of companies throughout all phases of business change, she expertly aligns human resource initiatives with company growth objectives and ever-changing customer needs. She develops and implements Human Resource competencies in talent attraction and acquisition, organizational development and design, recruitment and staffing, employee relations, compensation and benefits, training and development, and executive coaching.
Kristen’s over thirteen years of strategic and tactical Human Resources experience, including 12 years with Alphanumeric, has resulted in a solid track record of ensuring that Alphanumeric consistently employs appropriate skilled personnel to successfully serve its clients. By maintaining a solid talent and expertise base within the company, Kristen eliminates the need for outsourcing, thereby ensuring significant cost savings for clients and their stakeholders.
Kristen is SPHR certified and a member of the Society for Human Resource Management and Raleigh-Wake Human Resource Management Association. Kristen is also a Raleigh Chamber of Commerce - Leadership Raleigh graduate.
Steve Chase

As Vice President of Outsourcing and Emerging Markets, Steve Chase ensures that Alphanumeric delivers solutions to its customers that enable better, faster, and more efficient business operations. By building future opportunities for Alphanumeric, Steve identifies new and leading technologies to satisfy the current and future needs of customers.
With 23 years experience in technology sales, including 19 years experience with Alphanumeric, Steve offers his unique combination of broad technical expertise and wealth of business knowledge to ensure the company provides each client with a good customer experience at a good value. With a long-standing career in the technology arena beginning in the early ‘80s days of PC’s, Steve has consistently lowered costs, increased revenue, and mitigated risk for Alphanumeric’s customers. His diverse background also includes business development success in Alphanumeric’s document imaging and staffing services. As a testament to his knowledge and expertise in the technology field, Steve is a sought after speaker for information technology trends and how technology will impact the workplace.
Steve currently serves as an active member of the Greater Raleigh Chamber of Commerce Board of Advisors and the North Carolina Technology Association.
Linda Herndon
Vice President, Commercial Operations

As Vice President of Commercial Operations, Linda Herndon is responsible for managing large outsourcing solutions for all areas of IT, including applications support, Help Desk, Hardware support and knowledge and project management. Since assuming the Vice President of Commercial Operations position in July 2009, Linda has been driving Alphanumeric’s growth in the commercial sector by building on a solid foundation of past success.
Linda brings more than 20 years of hands-on IT management and operations experience to her current role at Alphanumeric. In her previous experience as Alphanumeric’s Director of Strategic Sourcing, she helped the company win, implement and manage several multilingual, international Help Desk solutions for a major pharmaceutical client. And before joining the Alphanumeric team in 2002, she worked at BB&T as a Vice President managing Network Control Center, Help Desk, Project Management and Desktop Support, where she developed the bank’s statewide Help Desk and created a framework project management methodology. Linda is certified in both ITIL Foundation and Project Management Framework. She currently serves on the Executive Board of Directors for Greenfield School.
